Uncommon’s “why” is quite simple, really but the journey to get there was long. One that was unexpected and life-changing.

 

If you know me well, you’ll know that my stomach has a mind of its own. It wreaks havoc and can sideline me at any time. I’ve had to learn its idiosyncrasies and nuances throughout the years. It has involved a lot of learning and diving deep into safeguarding my health.

 

It’s funny ... when things happen we usually ask “why me?” A common question for a perplexing situation. When I got sick that question came up more times than I could count. I sat in the frustration, sickness, and unknown for a while until I decided that I just couldn’t sit there anymore. I knew the Lord would use this suffering for my good and His glory. And He did.

 

Throughout the years, the Lord has shown me what it feels like to be left out, forgotten, pitied, and not cared for because of my dietary needs. I have felt isolated, less than, and unimportant. Things that no one should ever have to feel because of needs they didn’t ask for.

 

In the depths of this journey, the Lord showed me the needs that were all around me - dietary needs, mental needs, emotional needs, physical needs, & generational needs. He changed my perspective, opened my eyes, and I heard His call. Taking care of others' needs - no matter what they are - is my number one focus. This is what gets me up in the morning and what fuels my fire all day long. I realized that the Lord was going to use my greatest misery to be my biggest ministry.
