Q&A Time!
The Uncommon Way
What makes you Uncommon?
-
I think one of the greatest gifts I received as a child was being told that I was creative. When others recognized that special spark in me, I was able to recognize it in myself, and I am forever grateful. Today, I love to explore all kinds of creativity, and I love supporting others who are doing the same! Over the past few years, I have expanded upon my interior design foundation by finding new and challenging ways to express that creativity. I know that I feel a deep sense of passion and purpose when I challenge myself to step outside of my comfort zone, and I want to work right alongside people who continue to help me do this every day. Katie is ABSOLUTELY one of those people. I recognize that same special spark in her, and I see how her passion ripples out to those around her. I am so proud of everything she has accomplished already, and I know it is just the beginning! I'm just so excited to be working alongside her!

The Basics
When you are not working with Uncommon, what is your occupation?

I regularly work remotely for Uncommon while living in Seattle, and I also work as a full-time interior designer for Aegis Living in Bellevue, WA!
Favorites
What city would you most like to live in?
-
No surprise: I fell in love with Seattle! My husband and I moved from Milwaukee, WI to Seattle, WA in 2019.
What was the best year of your life and why?
-
2017 might just take the cake! I made a meaningful shift in my career, got engaged to my wonderful husband Jared, and I've taken some truly unforgettable trips, including a Habitat for Humanity service trip to El Salvador. I've taken some crazy creative risks like writing and illustrating a children's book for my niece, and I've worked with Clint Harp from HGTV's Fixer Upper to create a custom community table in Waco, TX! It's still kind of weird to put this all in writing - it's really awesome!
Which of your parents are you most like and why?
-
A bit of both - I am quiet like my mom and sassy like my dad. I also have started getting misty-eyed at the smallest sweet things, like my mom. And I've also started to have a hard time going places without knowing at least one other person, like my dad.
The Good Stuff
What makes you laugh the most?
-
Actually, it’s when other people imitate me or make fun of me. Lovingly, of course … I think :)
What is your nickname?
-
Katie and the team usually call me Sal. I'm also Tibb, Sur, or McLancy, depending on whom you ask.
What is a common misconception about you?
-
That I am always quiet or introverted. I definitely have moments where I am more extroverted … mostly on the dance floor :)
Country or city
-
Most days, city! Although, I do need a good Mother Nature fix to keep me balanced.
